Dr. Honaker graduated from the University of Georgia Veterinary College (www.vet.uga.edu) in 1981. After practicing emergency and critical care medicine in the Tidewater area for 17 years, he took ownership of Bay Beach in 1998.
Dr. Honaker serves as team veterinarian for F.E.M.A.'s Virginia Task Force 2 (www.vatf2.com) and was priveledged to participate in the recovery effort at the Pentagon in September of 2001 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He enjoys a broad range of veterinary interests but still enjoys emergency and critical care.
He lives in Virginia Beach with his wife, and in close proximity to the rest of his family.

Dr. Key is a 2003 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (www.vetmed.vt.edu), and has been serving Bay Beach since her graduation. Her history with Bay Beach, however, goes back even farther. Before embarking on what would become her dream profession, she served as a veterinary assistant for several years at the clinic.
Although Dr. Key enjoys developing relationships with all of her four-legged patients, she enjoys her feline friends the most. In addition to serving and educating our patient's owners during examinations, she especially enjoys the specific areas of surgery and ultrasonography.
Dr. Key lives in Virginia Beach with her family, a cat (Gus) and two tireless trouble-seekers: Dudley and Hogan... the two best Pugs in the world. |

Dr. Thompson is a 1997 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (www.vetmed.vt.edu). She earned her Bachelor's degree in Forestry and Wildlife from Virginia Tech (www.vt.edu) in 1993, and worked as a veterinary assistant for 6 years prior to attending veterinary school.
Dr. Thompson joined Bay Beach in 2002 after practicing in the Chesapeake area for several years. She firmly believes good client education is the foundation for our pet's health. She particularly enjoys cardiology, oncology, and other areas of internal medicine.
Dr. Thompson has a very busy home life: a husband, three young children, a happy, go-lucky Miniature Schnauzer named Fritz, and a lazy, elderly cat named Willoughby. She enjoys running, beach volleyball, and photography in her "spare time." |
Dr. Cronin graduated from the Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine (www.vet.cornell.edu) in 1994. She joined Bay Beach as an associate veterinarian in September 2005. Her particular interests include improving the human-animal bond, dentistry, and soft tissue surgery.
Dr. Cronin lives in Virginia Beach with her husband, two dogs, one cat and one much adored child. |

Dr. Smithwick graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1995 after obtaining a bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University in computer science. She has been involved in emergency medicine for over 11 years (and therefore cannot sleep). She started in the Carribiean where her veterinarian husband was attending veterinary school, then spent a year in Athens, Georgia when he attended the University of Georgia. She then settled herself in Virginia Beach. She has three children, an Australian Shepherd, four tolerant cats, and a "marginally cared-for" fish. She enjoys reading, hiking, tennis, stained glass, and carting short people to various sporting events. One day she will make a quilt. |
Dr. Ertugrul graduated from Ross University's School of Veterinary Medicine in 1994 and has worked in the Hampton Roads area for most of her veterinary career. She started practicing emergency and critical care medicine in 2005 and has enjoyed every aspect of it. She was presented the opportunity to join the Bay Beach staff in 2010. Dr. Ertugrul enjoys spending her free time with her three sisters (who also live in the area) as well as with her many four-legged family members. Her hobbies include almost all outdoor activities and creating artwork out of seashells she has been collecting over the years. |

Dr. Dean graduated from the North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. She completed a small animal internship at the Friendship Hospital for Animals in Washington, D.C. from 2007-2008. Her interests include emergency medicine, traveling, movies, scuba diving, and spending time with friends and family. Her current zoo includes five cats, two dogs, one large rabbit, and one blue tongued skink named "Jinx." She also has a fish tank. |

A veterinary technician is a person trained and licensed to assist veterinarians. A veterinary technician must have attended an A.V.M.A accredited school and pass a State Board Examination to become licensed.
Mary is a 1983 graduate of the Blue Ridge Community College (www.brcc.com) in Weyers Cave, VA. She grew up in Hampton and still lives there and commutes every day.
Mary worked in Norfolk until she joined Tidewater Veterinary Emergency Hospital in 1986, where she met Dr. Honaker. She joined Bay Beach in 2000. Mary brings a great deal of experience and skill to our team and her particular interests are emergency medicine and dentistry.
Mary has several cats, dogs, and gerbils.
Barbara is a 1984 graduate of the Blue Ridge Community College (www.brcc.com) in Weyer's Cave, VA. She grew up here in the Tidewater area but now calls North Carolina home. She commutes all the way here every day.
Barb has years of experience in both private practice and emergency care. She joined Bay Beach in 2007. Her particular interests are anesthesiology and critical care.
When Barb is not hard at work, she is busy showing her beloved Flat Coated Retrievers

Megan graduated from Blue Ridge Community College in Weyer's Cave, VA, in May 2009. Prior to receiving her degree, she spent many hours obtaining experience with the staff here at BBVH. Megan enjoys dentistry and radiography.
She lives in VA Beach with her two dogs. Megan enjoys photography, volleyball and softball in her spare time.
Eileen graduated from Blue Ridge in Weyer's Cave in 1983. She started working at BBVH in the fall of 2009. She is a mom to two wonderful boys and has several pets: dogs, a horse and a fish. Eileen is interested in combining traditional protocols with alternative therapies. When she is not at work she is active in many outdoor activities.
